Fruit Focus: Cherries

This is the second in our series of posts regarding the different fruits that we grow here at DeFisher Fruit Farm and the different products we can make with them at Apple Country Spirits.  The first entry in this series can be found here: http://applecountryspirits.com/blog/fruit-focus-apples/

Today's focus is on Cherries.  Cherries are our second biggest crop behind apples.  DeFisher Fruit Farm grows close to 100 acres of cherries all together, with a majority being tart cherries.  The oldest block of tree we have is over 35 years old and we have been growing cherries for ...

Spring is here!!!  I don't care that it is supposed to go down to 30 something tonight.... I see the sun, I see flowers and I see people breaking out of their long hibernation.  We are as busy as bees (like our farm manager Brian's bees even!) here at the distillery working on new products, events and cool ideas.  The Lake Ontario Wine Trail has two events under our belts for the year, and the next one won't be until July (hint: Booze and Music at a venue on a different Eddy Road).  So, we have been ...

Hello everyone!  It has been far to long since I posted but we have been in the heart of harvest season, and have been hard at work on new products for you all to enjoy.  We are working on two flavored vodkas, and should have them out early in the new year.  We wanted them out in time for the holiday season, unfortunately as we have learned everything takes longer to accomplish in this industry.  The flavors will be Peach and Tart Cherry.  We grow both, so will be using natural flavors instead of artificial syrups.

The next product we ...

As the season progresses and the weather gets colder we will be out and about doing tastings at different festivals and events.  If you haven't had a chance to stop by the distillery, maybe you can meet us at one of the ...

Hello everyone.  Sorry for the long absence of posts -- I am sure there are thousands of you hanging on my every post.... or at least my Mother (Happy Mother's Day weekend!)

So what have we been up to?  Well, since we opened we have been continuing production full tilt and working on our next slate of products.  Our research and development department (me) has been hard at work trying to come up with extensions to our product line.  Some ideas have come from all the wonderful people that visited us on our opening weekend and subsequent weekends, and some ...

Apple Country Spirits, while a rather large undertaking in itself, is just the first step toward a much wider goal of creating an agritourism destination in Wayne County.  Agritourism is a little bit of a new idea, basically pertaining to the promotion of farms as not only food/goods producing entities, but also as places of interest and interaction.  Agritourism destinations can be as simple as a farm stand, or as complex as a venue featuring music, food, event spaces etc.  Eventually we hope to start incorporating some of these other facets into the Eddy Road location including a farm ...
