Fruit Focus: Cherries

This is the second in our series of posts regarding the different fruits that we grow here at DeFisher Fruit Farm and the different products we can make with them at Apple Country Spirits.  The first entry in this series can be found here: http://applecountryspirits.com/blog/fruit-focus-apples/

Today's focus is on Cherries.  Cherries are our second biggest crop behind apples.  DeFisher Fruit Farm grows close to 100 acres of cherries all together, with a majority being tart cherries.  The oldest block of tree we have is over 35 years old and we have been growing cherries for ...

Throughout the summer we are going to talk about some of the different fruits that we grow here, what we can do with them, and how to use them in cocktails.  Since we are first and foremost an apple farm, we thought that would be the ideal fruit to start with.

We have been growing apples at DeFisher Fruit Farm for four generations, and are approaching our centennial anniversary (you had better believe we will have a heck of a party for that!)  Over the years tastes in apples have changed and so has what we grow.  Today we grow ...

Hello!  Is this thing still on?  It feels like every time I start writing a post I have to look back months to see the last one.... yet it only feels like a couple of days have passed!  Time really does fly when you're having fun.

As the title suggests this post will be about some of the unique and exciting events that we have planned for the summer months leading into fall.  These events include our Farm to Table Dinners, or Cocktail Evenings and our big Festivals.  If you don't like cocktails, hard cider or fun.... well ...

Spring is here!!!  I don't care that it is supposed to go down to 30 something tonight.... I see the sun, I see flowers and I see people breaking out of their long hibernation.  We are as busy as bees (like our farm manager Brian's bees even!) here at the distillery working on new products, events and cool ideas.  The Lake Ontario Wine Trail has two events under our belts for the year, and the next one won't be until July (hint: Booze and Music at a venue on a different Eddy Road).  So, we have been ...
